Private Putting Greens And Mini Golf Courses
We’ve been building private putting greens and mini golf courses in gardens since Easigrass first started operations in the UAE. As there are many keen golfers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi we receive plenty of requests for practice areas in the front or back gardens of peoples houses and villas. Some of our clients are extremely serious about their golf and can be found on their private putting green whenever they have a spare minute and others simply use their artificial putting greens for social reasons when they have friends around at the weekend.
Whatever the reason though a putting green in your garden is the ultimate toy for you and your family to enjoy all year around. We have also been known to install a sand bunker next to the green so that our clients can practise their chipping. Of course this is entirely dependent on the size of your garden but we can accommodate a bunker in most private putting green set ups.
Please have a look at our putting green gallery if you would like some inspiration.
Synthetic & Artificial Grass For Commercial (and private) Golf Courses & Driving Ranges
Golf has been seen, up until recently, as an elite sport but now things are beginning to change. Golf courses are now making concerted efforts to make the game more and more accessible to those young and old, rich and poor.
What this means is that golf courses, certainly in the Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the UAE are being more heavily used than ever and with the very dry weather conditions here it is become more and more difficult to keep a golf course in top condition.
Admittedly the golf courses in this region of the Middle East (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Oman) are genreally pristine but little is seen of what goes on behind the scenes to keep them is such perfect shape. The answer is an army of groundsmen, agronomists and machinery at work 24hrs a day and great expense. Golf courses are business and they need to watch their costs so endless watering, especially in this arid part of the world is now looked on very unfavourably not to mention the cost involved with the irrigation systems and the actual water itself.
More and more golf course are looking at introducing areas of artificial grass to the course to be able to cope with the high traffic from the golfers and to reduce over maintenance and water costs. Of course it is possible to build a full golf course in synthetic turf but as an introduction golf courses are looking at the tee boxes and the greens and some areas of the fairways.
Tees
For the tees and tee boxes we use a hard wearing nylon artificial turf thick enough to take a small tee. The tee grass needs to be made of a more hard wearing martial than standard artificial grass which is why we manufacture these tee areas using nylon.
Greens
For the greens we us a very tight curled (textured) grass which is then filled with sand to give a very realistic finish and feel to the green. The speed (stamp rating) of the green can be changed by introducing more sand to the synthetic turf. We would also always recommend a shock pad underneath the artificial grass on a putting green. The shock pad will prevent the ball from bouncing to far when chipped in from a distance. The shock pad helps to replicate natural playing conditions, without it the ball will hit the green and bounce much further than it would on a natural grass green. This shock pad can be a pre-farbriacted pad or it can be a poured rubber in-situ pad.
Fairways And Rough
The particular grass used on fairways is really down to personal preference and the specific playing situation. If the golf course is very heavily used then we would recommend a hard wearing sports turf, similar to those used on a commercial football pitch. This grass could also be reserved for areas of the fairway with most play. On other areas, for examples a tree line separating to holes, we can then use a very natural looking landscaping grass with a brown thatch root zone to replicate natural grass. As there will only be a small amount of play on this fake grass, if any, it is fine to use one of our landscaping grasses.
The height of the fairway artificial grass products and the rough artificial grass products depends entirely on the design of the course and the wishes if the golf course superintendent. We can manufacture our various models of grass to any required length so we can create a totally unique and bespoke golf course when required.
Driving Ranges
Most driving ranges these days are built with a synthetic grass product due the the high traffic and wear of these areas. Natural grass driving ranges are almost impossible to maintain even if the tees are moved backwards and forwards because the natural grass simply doesn’t get enough time to rest and re-grow. A synthetic grass driving range removes the need to move the tee areas around. The maintenance requirement of an artificial tee driving range is minimal compared to that of a natural grass tee which is why most new courses are being built with synthetic tees and many of the older courses are changing their tee areas to synthetic.
